Behind the Scenes of Documentaries: Our Role in “Mysteries of the Abandoned”

When Like A Shot Entertainment approached us to produce an episode for their documentary series Mysteries of the Abandoned, we knew the best approach was to provide a skilled local crew and top-tier equipment to shoot the entire episode. The footage was then delivered for editing in the UK.

At Fixer Brazil, our expertise lies in unscripted content and documentaries. For this project, we handled character research and all the necessary pre-production for the episode about the abandoned prison on Ilha Anchieta.

On the day of the shoot, our producer, Renato Falzoni, was prepared with comprehensive knowledge of the prison’s history, a detailed bio of the main character, and a logistics plan to ensure a seamless shoot. Director of Photography Felipe Meireles had conducted extensive iconographic research to capture the perfect shots and had the script internalized. Drone Pilot Tomaz Cavalieri had meticulously planned every flight, ensuring stunning aerial footage crucial to telling the prison’s story.

With just one day to film, we captured the testimony of Celio de Almeida, the son of a police officer who lived on the island during its time as a high-security prison. Our two-camera setup, planned in advance, allowed us to quickly switch between gimbal and tripod shots, maximizing efficiency. Clear and effective communication between our three crew members was key to executing the day’s work flawlessly. Meticulous planning and organization ensured a successful shoot.
